Some DVD plyer applications such as WinDVD, attempt to detect if there is a
composiet video out socket on the PCs Display Adapter. If so, then it
refuses to play DVDs: some give messages about copyright violation.
It's all a nonsense, however it can't be overcome.
Use Windows Media Player and you can watch the DVD on your PC.
