Turning off ZIP folders??

Much like in XP, Vista will display zip files as folders. How can I prevent
Vista from displaying zip files as folders?

It really gets in the way when you have a folder with lots of zip files.
This was easy to disbale in XP, but seems pretty much hidden in Vista. My
guess is it requires a trip into the registry, but I can't find a relative
key that seems to control this somewhat annoying functionality.

All help would be much appreciated.

Thanks, but no that doesn't do the trick since it just disables Vista's zip
functionality.

What I am looking for is a way to prevent Vista from displaying zip folders
as an explorer tree in the left pane folder list without disabling Vista's
zip functionality. In XP it was simple: Windows Explorer > Tools > Folder
Options > View ... and untick "Display simple folder view in Explorer's
Folders list" and click ok.

Is there anything like that to be found in Vista???

Thanks for all.

See what this does, in Windows Explorer...

TOOLS menu|FOLDERS|VIEW tab
Uncheck "display simple folder view in navigation pane.

I didn't think that option had anything to do with zip folders. IIRC, that
particular settings caused a folder to automatically expand when it was
clicked on, and collapse any other expanded folder.

Nope, that only relates to how the left pane is displayed with subfolders
and the like but has no impact on how Vista displays zip folders in the left
pane of Windows Explorer.

Hell, I can't belive that this is sooo seemingly impossible to turn off.
With XP the user had far more control! Just try tunring off hybernation or
DEP in Vista or other simple settings, and you soon realise that you need to
go to the command prompt with admin privilges and need to know the correct
commands and syntax. As much as I like Vista, it's these litle things that
drive me more and more away from it!

Correct, and that included how XP interprted the folder content even if it
had zip files in it; hence this was so easy to turn off in XP.

But in Vista it seems that the user has no longer control over this and
similar behaviours. If you have lots of zip files in a folder, and drag
another file to that folder Vista will expand the folder showing all zip
files like folders in the left pane. So, chancecs are that the file you are
dragging across will be dropped into a zip file rather than into the folder
itself - very annoying, to say the least! Besides, I really don't need to
have all them zip files displayed as folders - it's rather irritating, in
fact!!
