In Word 2000 when I block a text to change the format, Word tries to act
intelligent and changes more than the section I have blocked. Is there any
way I can turn off Word 2000's "intelligence" feature and have it do exactly
what I tell it to. There are other Word features that try to predict what I
want to do. I find all of these very annoying and would like to turn them
all off.

Most likely the setting that's causing you grief is the "When selecting,
automatically select entire word" check box on the Edit tab of Tools |
Options. But see
