turning off the computer?

Can I have the computer shut off or do I have to manually
do it in win2000? In win98 when I selected shut down it
shut it off too. 2000 goes to a safe to turn off screen?
Isn't that backwards?
 
Check the registry key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows
NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon\PowerdownAfterShutdown. The value should be
zero.
