Turning off feature that automatically creates dates?

G

Guest

When I type, for example, "4-44" (without the quotation marks) into a cell,
Excel automatically transforms the data into a date ("Apr-44").

How do I stop this?

Thanks!

Preformat the cells as Text (format|cells|Number tab)
then do the data entry

or prefix your entry with an apostrophe: '4-44
