Enabling/disabling your wireless adapter in the registry won't
have any effect until your reboot the machine. Is this what
you want?

Yes (I think). I can not turn the card on. There is no option in the biois,
no 'F' keys and the switch is on. However, i keep getting told to turn the
hardware switch on. All drivers are up to date. I'm thinking turn it on in
the registry to solve the problem.

I think the OP wants the "Enable/Disable" option of a LAC/WAC and
not the enable/disable of the specific Network adapter itself. If the PC is
a notebook most all of them come with a Wireless disable button/switch
which is way more convenient than a registry change.

I down graded the laptop from vista to xp. The switch is in the 'on'
position but will not work. HP will not suport XP so i don't have the
software to activate the device. I thought altering the registry was a way
to enable the switch. If you know of any software i could use that would be
great. The Intel WAN management software also wants me to switch the device

Been there, done that - The key to getting XP to work on recent HP
and Compaq notebooks is the right drivers. You'll find that a direct
match is hard to come by. I've had to setup XP on at least 8 of these
PCs that ship with Vista and it's never easy. Unfortunately a Registry
change isn't going to get Wireless up and running especially if the PC
has an Atheros Wireless chip.

You'll find numerous posts on HP's support site that deal specifically
with removing Vista and installing XP. - Good Luck with it.

Yeah that is what i have done, It's the wireless that i just need to
connect. My HP is a DV2750ea. You didn't happen by chance to downgrade this
model did you so you could tell me the driver you used?
