Is there a quick, easy way to turn a folder filled with shortcuts, into a
list of hyperlinks in a Word.doc?

What sort of shortcuts?

'shortcuts to folders on a server. I can laboriously 'get properties' on
each shortcut, one by one, copy the target path, then go to the word.doc,
type the shortcut name, and create a hyperlink to that folder. But there are
hundreds of these, and it is way tedious.

I'm trying to migrate from a hastily-concocted folder filled with shortcuts
that I intentionally renamed so each starts with due date and therefore all
auto-sort in project due date order.

But since Explorer doesn't let us add columns to folder lists or tag folders
in color or define custom properties for folders, I thought of migrating the
whole thing into a Word table where the shortcuts would be replaced by
hyperlinks and where I could add columns for the purpose of keeping track of
more parameters, tasks and metadata on each project.

Open Windows Explorer and display the folder that contains the shortcuts.
Select them, then use the right mouse button to drag them into the Word
document. When prompted, choose Create Hyperlink Here.

You'll need to separate the links if you want them as a list, but dragging
does the basic job of getting them into Word as hyperlinks.

Herb, that's so simple it's embarrassing. I had tried dragging them with the
left mouse button down but all it did was create useless grey-box objects
containing the shortcut file names appended with .lnk extensions. Guess I
never knew - or had reason to try - the right mouse button trick. Thanks!
