Turn on Aero

When I installed Vista Beta 2 few days ago, I had 512Mb of RAM. I first
thought that the Aero mode is activated, but since things like Flip 3D were
not available, I was probably using standard mode. Today I upguarded to 1GB
of RAM, and still Aero isn't turned on. So is there any way to turn it on, or
do I have to reinstall Windows? I am preety sure that the ammount of RAM was
the problem, since I have preety powerful graphic card.

Chances are it is your video card drivers.

What video card do you have as that is more important than the amount of system
RAM you have.

That's two good questions I have been wondering myself . . .How does one know
Aero is on at full capacity or not? I have 2Gigs Ram with a 251 ATI Hyper
Memory PCI-Express X16 Radeon X600 SE graphics card. Is this enough to get
all of Aero? Furthermore, Iv'e noticed when I click on the cards properties
off the desktop, the features of the card are not listed, like they were on
XP Media Center, it's just a generic Microsoft driver, but it's obviously
working . . .
Any thoughts?

manufacturer's vista drivers. the defaults may not recognize the card as
being that awesome

Have you thought about using ATI's Vista drivers? Just a thought.

I have an nForce 6150 onboard my motherboard, using 128 MB of system memory,
and while I do get all the opacity settings and things look lovely, I too
would like to know if I should be seeing more (or, if there is more to see).
BTW, I am using 64-bit beta Vista drivers from nVidia.

If you are seeing the transparent "glass" effect then you probably have
the full Aero Glass enabled. Take a look at some of the many screen
captures available on the web. If you're seeing what they show then
that's it. It could be that you're just not that impressed with the new
UI.

Oh, I'm impressed alright. It's just that I can't get the 3D Alt-Tab thing
going on. Isn't that supposed to be part of the new visuals? Seems like I
read in a thread hereabouts that there is a setting for the 3D? If so, where
is that? TIA.

Doh! Thanks.

Now, should the representations of each open window be so jaggy on the
edges? Only the desktop window is smooth all around.

Yea, it looks pretty terrible right now (once you get passed the coolness
factor), but I hear they are working to get this anti-aliased and smooth
before final release. On my screen, it is very dim and washed out :(.
Luckily, some testers are reporting that the current techbeta build has some
improvements in this area, so *fingers crossed*
