Turn off windows mail

Guest

I know I cannot uninstall Windows mail, but how do I turn it off. I cannot
seem to figure out how to do this. I typed in a search and my computer told
me I could turn it off then I went to the "turn features on or off" panel and
I couldn't find anything. I am already using outlook with my MS Office 2007
pack and windows mail just gets in the way...

It IS off until you turn it on by opening it.

How does it get "in the way"?
Incidentally, Outlook can't do newsgroups by itself. It needs Windows Mail
for that.

You assumed correctly. I just posted this for future reference when an OP will only want to stick to Outlook for mail and news and for nothing else. And there is a few.

The Idea that Windows Mail is off by default is TOTALLY not true. I speak of Vista, the latest OS for a while now.

I have repeatedly had to hit the 3-finger; CTRL-ALT-DELETE, to bring up the task manager to "end the process" of Windows Mail. This will turn it's self "ON" again after any reboot or time-out. It's a microsoft 'survival trait'. They stand to gain in this respect,- dumping the problem on to WE.

Windows mail "gets in the way" by taking up my computers' resources. I did not want any microsoft products because they are never the best thing out there. Microsoft has taken my freedom by 'designing in' this inability to rid myself of their monopolizing strangle-hold.

By thinking that someone would use the software inherent in the operating system shows I, A supertech, that they don't know what the BLEEP they are typing about.

I, like anyone, enjoy traveling. I have an online email system to keep beasts off my system. I have investments that I would like to keep an eye on.

I'm not trying to "set up" a computer everywhere I go with accounts, In or out POP servers, Ip address or all the trouble that comes with setting MS software

I'm not sure exactly what problem you are experiencing, but you may find
that some anti-virus programs are responsible for launching mail and IM's in
order to "monitor" them, and you have to turn off their monitoring of those
apps to stop the AV from launching them. This isn't an OS feature.

I run Windows Mail, or Windows Live mail, only as needed, and it does not
behave in the manner I think you describe.
