I've set my Windows Sounds to "No Sounds" -- yet, when I use the Volume
Control slider in the mixer, it beeps every time.

Just setting volume up or down makes a beep.

How can I turn that off?

Rename "Windows XP Ding.wav" to something else in your c:\windows\media
folder. This may make your computer speaker beep, but you can disable that
in device manager.

The only program I know of that can disable this is x-setup

http://www.x-setup.net/downloads/home.asp?lang=EN

you can download a trial, apply the tweak and then uninstall it...
the tweak should remain.

to find the tweak look at HARDWARE> SOUND> SOUND SETTINGS
and uncheck the checkmark that says BEEP ON ERRORS

from the program "NOTE #1: This sound is using the PC Speaker inside your
computer and not using your sound card and speakers!"

if this resolves your problem, tell me...

Man, it's crazy.

Why would they make the system speaker beep just when changing the
volume for the sound chip (?!)
