Turn Off Computer Question

Fran

Is there a safe "shortcut method" to Turn Off my computer without having to
go to Start>Turn Off Computer and >Turn Off Computer AGAIN on the Turn off
computer pop-up. Just one click to Turn Off would be fine. TIA, Fran

Hello Fran,
Windows is set up this way for a reason. This allows programs to close
properly. If you short cut this it could cause loss of data and could damage
files.
Best of luck to you.

In Fran <[email protected]> had this to say:

My reply is at the bottom of your sent message:

Yup. Make a shortcut, give it this command "SHUTDOWN -s -t 01"

To make a shortcut right click anywhere on the desktop and select new
shortcut. To make it pretty right click and select customize and you can
even give it your own icon.

My pc's are set to shut off with the power button, one push.

And, in case the OP would like to know where that is actually
configured, use the Power Options applet in Control Panel, Advanced
panel, and configure the "When I press the power button on my computer"
option to "Shutdown".

So there you have it Fran ,
I never said it couldn't be done. You can shave two seconds off your
shutdown time by following these, if it is that improtant to you. I am an
MCDST and I trouble shoot computers for a few companies here in my area. Most
of the problems are from users looking for ways to save a second here or
there. Will you have problems? Who knows. Is it worth the risk? That's your
call. Best of luck to you.

They have to do a little research.

The thing is Shaun , they don't do the research. They come to work with some tip they picked up from Uncle Harry and apply it to their workstation. Then when files are lost or broken and the tech is called , he or she gets the "I didn't nuttin" reply from the user when asked, "What did you change?". So the tech is trying to figure out what happened while the team lead is breathing down his back muttering something about down time and cost.
So that is why I have a If it anit broke don't fix it" reply when a
user asks how to short cut something. Have a good one!
