Turn off auto-calc

John

I can't keep Excel from opening files with auto-calc
enabled...Everytime I set it to manual, it somehow changes back to
auto.

Any help?

John,

The setting in the first workbook opened sets Calculation to auto or manual
for the whole session (all workbooks). No one understands why that is, and
many have pondered it. We suspect it simply can't be known.

Hi John,
If you are using/have macros, close all the workbooks you
see open, then use Window(menu), unhide personal.xls
change your tools, options, save then hide your personal.xls
workbook again. The file in your XLSTART directory where
people normally have a personal.xls workbook are opened first.

Thanks Earl and David for the tips. I cured the problem using David's
suggestion...it was actually the personal.xls that kept resetting the
auto-calc.

Thanks again...
