trying to remove Outlook 2003 Area Codes

Outlook has added area codes infront of all my phone numbers. This is fine for dialing fromt he PC.

The problem arises when I syncronise my contacts with my mobile. When I try to dial (x) xxxxxxxx my mobile won't do it. so then I have to manually edit the phone number in my mobile so I can dial it.

Trouble is next time I sync with outlook, the area codes come back again.

Can I turn off area codes somehow?
