Trying to print from MSDOS program via WinXP - help

M. B.

I have no idea, but for some reason the below is no longer working for me:

Start / Run / cmd

net use lpt1 \\violin1\brother /persistent:yes

I am getting a "System error 66 has occured. The network resource type is
not correct."

I am running Windows XP Pro SP2 with the latest patches. Share this printer
is on. Printer is on port: 192.168.0.11 and connected directly into my
router, which is on port - my router is on 192.168.0.1 I am trying to
print from the local computer (server).

My computer name is: violin1
networked printer is: brother

Does anyone have any other clues? I really need to print something from
within the old MS-DOS program, and for the past 2 years I had no problems
using the above. Am I missing something?

Help!

I found out more information with my (see below) issue.

When I try to issue the "net view" command (in CMD window), I get the
following error:

"System error 6118 has occured. The list of servers for this workgroup is
not currently available."

When I try to issue the "net view \\violin" command ((in CMD window), I get
the following error:

"The server serice is not started."

I am now wondering, what is going on? How can I fix this? Couild it be
the router blocking something?

Thanks!

"System error 6118 has occured. The list of servers for this workgroup
is not currently available."

Internet firewalls can prevent browsing and file sharing

"The server serice is not started."

Make sure that the Server service is started.

Start | Run | Type: services.msc | Click OK |
Scroll down to and double click Server | Set
Startup type to Automatic | Click Apply | Click the Start
button | Click OK | Close Services.

If Server is not listed in Services...
This will restore the Server service (lanmanserver) so it will be listed in
Services.msc.

Open Network Connections...
Start | Run | Type: ncpa.cpl | Click OK |
Right click Your Connection | Properties |General tab |
Install button | Highlight: Service | Add button |
Highlight: File and Printer Sharing for Microsoft Networks | Click OK |
Close Network Connections
