Trying to keep the file size smaller

I'm creating a manual, and trying to keep the file size as small as possible.
I've already writtena about 12 pages and it's already 1.7MB, due to
screenshots. Is there any way to keep the file size smaller as I write the
manual? (cannot eliminate screen shots)

I heard that instead of clicking "save" each time, it's better to do "Save
as" and overwrite the file each time. I heard choosing "Save As" keeps the
file size a bit smaller rather than clicking "Save" each time. Is this true?

I want to file size to be under 10MB, and any advice would be helpful.
Thank you very much!

I'm creating screenshots using "snag it". Each screen shot is about 80-100
KB. I'm try to crop as much as possible when I create the screenshots. I do
re-size these screenshots in Word directly (re-sizing to make them smaller).
Does that increase the file size - even when I'm re-sizing them to be
smaller? I can't reduce the number of screen shots b/c I'm working on a tech
manual. Thanks so much for your help in advance.

Good to hear you're using SnagIt. Resizing smaller will not increase
filesize, but if you resize before importing into Word you could save space.
However, you can compress pictures (Format | Picture) and also save some
space. Hope this helps.
