trying to copy/burn a cd

hi, I am trying to copy a cd. I've been able to copy cd's before, now it
fails everytime. I was using Roxio's Easy Media Creator 7, but that $100
program never worked. I've uninstalled it, installed Nero and it still
fails. I know the CD i am trying to copy will copy because I've copied it
before. I have windows media player, real player all of which fail. Anyone
have any ideas? I have a Gateway 400SD laptop. 512ram, 60gb hd.

What error messages do you get, your burner could be bad also.
