Trying to add resource allocation data to a gantt chart built in E

D

Dee

Hello,

I'm using Excel 2003. I've been asked to create a one-page report that shows
major projects and work assignments, and their durations over a period of
time so we can see where they overlap and competing for resources. So I
created a gantt chart in Excel using the stacked horizontal bar chart feature
with the data as the task/start date/duration to create the bars (I got this
neat trick from this YouTube video, believe it or
not...
.)

Now, I need to overlay percentage of resource allocations for several teams
in different colors over the same months (like May - December, for example)
as lines on a secondary vertical axis. I want the secondary vertical axis to
be % allocation. Some teams are allocated to the projects listed, others not,
but they are allocated to other assignments elsewhere. I can pull this data
from MSProject 2007 with no problem and put that data into Excel.

The point is to show the projects as gantt bars over a date range, then
overlay the resource allocation in percentages as lines with data points to
clearly show where there is and is not bandwidth to add more projects. It
answers the question for those executive types about "why can't we do more
projects." MSProject 2007 does not provide this feature to combine all the
data into one in it's reporting features, but I can export all the data into
excel to work with. Just can't seem to combine all the data together.

Thanks for any assistance!

Dee
PS: Can you have more than one secondary axis (both horizontal and vertical)
in the same chart? Haven't figured that out either or I may have solved this
by now.
