Trusts over VPN

Graeme

I want to set up a trust between two Win2k domains (D1
and D2) which are connected through a VPN. I can ping the
DC of each domain from each end of the VPN but when I try
to set up a trust I get an error message telling me that
I need to "contact" the other domain before a trust can
be setup. What am I doing wrong, or what do I have to do
to get this to work?

In order to establish the trusts you will need to be able to resolve the domain controlers, the easiest way to do this would be setup an LMHOSTS file on the
Domain Controlers. The following article describes the method for doing this.

Do I need to have WINS configured? On my server, nbtstat -
c shows no names in cache. I have do not have a WINS
server listed in the network properties but I do
have "Enable LMHOSTS lookup" checked. Am I correct in
saying that I need to add my DC as a WINS server?
