Best to create your images on a hard drive installed for the purpose in
addition to DVD's. I save a daily image to the hard drive and a weekly image
to DVD's. The media is cost effective now.

It installed without trouble and works well on my copy of Vista
Ultimate. Compression is not as good as Norton Ghost (which I don't
think does work on Vista, yet), but True Image is considerably more
flexible.

Please respond to the Newsgroup, so that others may benefit from the exchange.

I have it up and running on my Vista machine Mark.
No problems whatsoever - it works like a charm.

I recently purchased True Image 10 from Newegg for $31.90. (download)
Acronis wants $50 on their website. So shop around. Also available at Amazon
but last weekend when I shopped Newegg was the best price I could find.
If you do get it from Newegg beware of this: You will go through the
checkout process and get an email from Newegg thanking you for your money.
There will be no mention of how / where to download the software. Eventually
you will get an email with a link to download and the code. This was my
first Newegg transaction and I was getting pretty p1ssed trying to figure
out what was going on.
Tonight will be my first backup.

1) If you select validate after backup, all backup archives will be
validated everytime a backup is taken, not just the backup just created.

2) It will ignore the limits you set for backups. Assume you select 3
backup limit, it should delete the oldest backup when the 4th backup is
taken. It will not. You will have to manually manage the backup storage
space.

Acronis has indicated in an email, these 2 bugs will be fixed in the next
update but no indication when that update is to be released.

Thanks. Is it possible to install to use it only when I want? I mean,
without any True Image 10 processes running every time I start my computer.

It installs several services that run all the time. You can't change this
through the install routine but you can disable the services if you want
through services.msc, then enable them when you want it to run.

Thanks.
Are you referring to “stop the service†link in the “stop, resume, start
service†links area?
How long will these commands be in effect – until I shutdown Vista, or until
I click “resume†or “restart
Will the stopped True Image 10 installed services be running again after
Vista restarts?

If you just stop a service then on next restart it will revert to what has
been set as it's startup type, Automatic, Automatic Delayed, Manual or
Disabled. If it's set to Automatic, which the Acronis services are then
then it will start. If you don't want it to start, then double click the
service, stop it, and then change the startup type to disabled.

Service status: Stop, start, and resume are applicable to the current Windows logon session.

Startup Type: Manual, Automatic, Disabled retain settings for the current and future logon sessions.

Hmm, who are you replying to? You haven't quoted any of the previous
thread. Also I answered this question when you posted it yesterday.

As others have said, I'm sure you can disable some of the processes.
However, one of the features of True Image is the ability to hit F11 when
starting your PC, in order to restore a complete backup of Windows, should
you have a problem. The processes will also be necessary if you are
scheduling any backups with it.

Bottom line: You can probably prevent it from running any processes, but you
may be best not to.

True Image 10 works on my Win Vista laptop up to the point of actually doing
a full system restore.

It makes a full image of C: on external USB harddrive. The image can be
mounted and Explore'd. True Image 10 hangs after the Acronis Loader runs
when booting from the Acronis Rescue CD, or when attempting to create Acronis
Secure Zone.

Vista arrived pre-installed with Norton and other software on a new laptop
(HP dv9000). Maybe this problem is specific to this laptop model, or maybe
Norton is blocking it.

Has anyone else actually done a full system restore of Vista from a disk
image?

I've been wondering that myself. I got it, based on recommendations here and
elsewhere, and it works great at making backups. But I don't have the nerve
or scrap my drive (or buy a new one) to try out a restore. I've tried
restoring individual files, and that works great.

In checking out NewEgg.com's reviews, most were glowing, but there were
maybe a half dozen people that said it worked great until they had to
restore a drive, and then it wouldn't. It would be nice to hear that others
have restored drives successfully, after a failure.

Because of the amount of testing I do I restore my O/S about 1-2 times a
week. I have never had a failure.

I've restored lots of times with Vista & on a HP laptop.
I am using a clean install of Vista, not the bundled hp version tho, so no
Symantec.
