Are there any programs that can be run on a floppy drive at boot up
that can check computer components.I have one called Memtest86 that
checks the memory chip.

It depends on what you want to test. I know that a lot of harddrive
manufacturers provide floppies for testing their harddrive. A lot of
OEM's like Dell (at least they used to) provided a system diagnostic
test that came on floppy. What is it that you want to test? If you just
want to test all of your hardware and see if everything is working
properly, just download a program like Everest Home from www.lavaly.com
or find SiSoft Sandra 2004 SP2 ;)

There are various boot programs but the are related to specific issues. For
a more general approach try dxdiag.exe.
Its been bundled in Windows since Noah was a lad yet very few people either
now about it or use it.
