Troubleshooting NTVDM installation.

I am running Windows XP (Media Center Edition) Version 2002; SP2. I've been
having difficulty installing an old version of Quicken and believe I'm
missing some files (or they're corrupted). I'm using Article 222975 from the
knowledge base to help me troubleshoot.

I've followed the instructions down through printing out the KnownDLLs
values. Now I need to compare them to the %SystemRoot%\System32 folder to
see if they match. I know this is stupid, but WHERE is that folder? I see
that string as data values in the cmdline and wowcmdline but where is the
file itself. I'm so embarassed....thanks for the help!

Start..run and type or copy and paste %SystemRoot%\System32 and it'll open
the folder.

%systemroot% is a system environment variable, referring to the actual path
where Windows is installed. . Windows will convert it to wherever that
happens to really be.

By default, it will ordinarily be "c:\windows". But it could, on a custom
install, instead be "g:\winXP" or "x:\helens_windowsxp". It depends on
where the system installer told Windows to install to.

By default, %systemroot%\system32 will expand to, "c:\windows\system32".

Thanks so much. I think I've found the problem. In my KnownDLLs file I have
raspapil16.dll listed but in the SystemRoot file it lists rasapil32.dll. How
do I get them in sync?

Those are two entirely different files.

You should *not* be having to hack the registry or edit files to install
this. What does Intuit say about this?

Be sure that they are aware that you're using Windows Media Center Edition.
Not all software will install or run properly on that version of XP, though
most of what I've seen fail is related to audio recording.

Intuit maintains it's Microsoft's problem. My husband bought a laptop at the
same time with the same Media Edition and it installs fine on his. The
difference seems to be that his registry and system files both contain the
rasapi32.dll files. Any ideas on how to get the rasap32.dll file into my
known registry instead of the rasap16.dll that's there?

Hi Helen,
This can happen if you are running a 16-bit program on a system using
