Troubleshoot Rehersal Timing Powerpoint 2000

A friend made a powerpoint presentation using 2003 with rehearsal timings.
She packaged it and sent it as a folder. When I view the show in Powerpoint
2000 the rehersal timing is off. Any suggestions?

Yes, that happens -- sometimes, the rehearsal timings may be different even
if you use the same version of PowerPoint. There's not much you can do --
but do follow these guidelines:

1. Keep a gap of two to three seconds after each slide to compensate for
change in timings.
2. For slides that are full of custom animations, keep a gap of 5 seconds
before the next slide plays.
3. Test the rehearsed presentations on several versions of PowerPoint to
make sure that the timings work well.
4. Test the rehearsed presentation on both Windows and Mac versions of
PowerPoint if you work in a cross platform environment.

I am very dissapointed that Microsoft has this glitch. Allowing extra
seconds is not an option because the presentation and timings are made with
songs. There are no other suggestions?

Yes, Tanya,

PowerPoint was developed as a presentation software to accompany a talk.
There are several options for building what is essentially a music video.

1) Photo story
2) Windows Movie Maker (or other third party video software)
3) Flash

Using the correct software will make your life much easier, trust me. Look
at Windows Movie Maker. It is probably already installed on your system and
can build movie files where the pictures and music stay in sync. If you
want, after you have created the movie, you can insert it into PowerPoint or
keep it as a stand alone.

My experience with PP is that the timings will vary on each systems they are
played on. The speed of the computer, memory, what's running in the
background, ALL will affect the timings. I've made 3 presentations for use
at weddings etc. This has always been an issue. Even with PP 2007, the
same thing crops up. It's the nature of the beast. We're trying to make PP
do something it's not designed for. In my case, I did the shows and showed
them from the same computer each time, and made sure all processes possible
were shut off from running in the background. (anti-virus etc.) We did
pretty good, but I only had 4-5 KEY slides in the show that I wanted to play
at "just the right moment" in the music.

As an aside, the photographer who shot 2 of our sons wedding uses a program
called ProShow. I've not taken the time to look into it much, but I have a
feeling it's more suited for making special shows for weddings etc.
