Trouble

When I installed XP, I was using Win ME on the C drive. I installed the Win XP on the E drive. All was OK until something ocurred to corrupt the C drive. The C drive seemed to be beyond repair, so I reformatted it and re-installed the Win XP on the C drive. Now I have a brand new WIn XP but my old work on the E drive is totally inaccessible by the operating system. However, I can use Windows Explorer to find all my old XP installed programs on the E drive but the new XP cannot use them. I , also, cannot access my old settings and data for the internet Explorer and Outlook Express, i.e. settings, messages, contacts, and favorites

Is there a way of retieving my old data and running my old programs without having to reinstall

Thanks for any help, Nick.

For Outlook Express try File/Import and point it to the appropriate folder on
the E drive
under import you will find headings...mail settings/news settings/address book/
As for Favorites I just copied the old folder to the new folder .It is located
under "documents&settings"/your user name

Have you tried the settings and transfer wizard? start\accessories\system tools\files and settings transfer wizard. Click next at the first window. Then make sure the dot is in the New Computer and hit next. Then put a dot in "I don't need the wizard disk. I have already collected my files and settings from my old computer." click next. Then put a dot in "Other(for example, a removeable drive or network drive) and click the browse button and highlight your E: drive and then hit next. Now as I don't have two partitions I can't tell you what may or may not happen from here. All I know is that this wizard exists and may or may not be an option to investigate. Good luck. {:~)

I think if you run a Repair of XP from the installation CD you should be
able to have it boot to the original Installation. It should ask you which
installation to repair If not a properly installed ntdetect.com and
boot.ini on the root of C: should give you the option of selecting either
Installation. There is also a utility on your system called bootcfg - read
that up in the help file.
