trouble with one computer

I now have 2 computers connected to my ADSL. They were working immediately
when I connected the second which is an IBM workstation with just 9 GB disk.
This is the one I am now using to write this as the other computer after 2
days does not connect to the internet any more.

ipconfig shows 169.254.134.45 while the working one show 10.1.1.5 which
according to the ISP is correct. The former being the error. I must admit I
have tried to connect the two computers so that I can send files and
programs from one to the other and might easily have upset some software.

Unfortunately the ISP does not give any further help once one computer is
working.

Does anyone have any ideas on how to get my computer working again. That
machine is running mailwasher and gives an error of "cannot allocate socket"
the result of ifconfig /renew is "an operation was attempted on something
which is not a socket"

Forte Agent gives "an online error occurred when loadding winsock driver"

- How are your PCs connected?
- Is your ADSL router configured as a DHCP server?
- Do your PCs use DHCP?
- Do you have a PC-based firewall, perhaps integrated with your virus
scanner?
