For some mysterious reason, Bullets and Numbering are both grayed-out when I
am in certain parts of my document and I cannot turn on either feature. I
have had moderate success by back-spacing or deleting to the previous line
and then hitting “Enter/return†and then the next line is numbered as the
ones before. However, success with this process is cumbersome, inconsistent
and limited. I have tried the "Open and repair" feature and no problems are
found with the document. I have tried turning on other Word features that
might reveal "hidden" format issues, and have not been able to find anything
to cause bullets or numbering to be blocked from use. Starting with a
"clean" document isn't an option as it would mean hours of work going through
the document to apply all of the correct numbering and other formatting
required. I am using Word 2003 in a Windows XP environment and this was also
a problem when I had Windows 2000 and the “Track Changes†feature is also in
use.
