Trouble with my DSL and McAfee Virus scan

I have DSL on my XP pc and I have the DSL set to automatically connect on
startup or if there is no connection but it seems like when I restart the
computer the McAfee program is starting slower than it used to and I have to
wait awhile for it to start then when the Vshield gets started my DSL
connection starts dialing. It takes about 3 minutes sometimes. Is there a
way to get it to where McAfee will not fight with the DSL or whatever it's
doing? I had this problem before with my cable modem connection when I 1st
started using windows xp back in 2001. If anyone knows why it would get
bogged down at startup due to the antivirus and can help me to clear that up
I'd appreciate it. Thanks.

Hi Jeff,

Uninstall Mcafee - does the problem go away? If so, reinstall it and check
the settings very carefully OR leave it uninstalled and use AVG from
www.grisoft.com (it's free and nowhere as near as system intrusive as
Mcafee).

McAfee is a good program I just don't know why Windows XP all of a sudden
would have it not starting fast like it should. It doesn't really take 3
minutes its more like maybe 1 but its a long enough wait. I do think maybe I
should uninstall McAfee and reinstall it since I switched to DSL. I wanted
to see if I could avoid having to do that. Anyway thanks for your help.
