Trouble with CDROM event 51

Ashwini Khanna

Hi All!
I am trying to install Oracle 8i on my Windows XP. I run the setup.exe, it just reads the CDROM and the hard-disk and nothing happens therefter. When I check the System events - a warning for CDROM is generated saying - "
An error was detected on device \Device\CdRom0 during a paging operation.

For more information, see Help and Support Center at http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp.

An error was detected on device \Device\CdRom0 during a paging operation.

For more information, see Help and Support Center at http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp."

The Event Id is 51.

How do I get off this error and install Oracle 8i smoothly. I tried installing from the same CD at my friends computer having Windows XP and it worked absolutely fine. So what could be wrong with my XP configuration ?

Any help......

Thanks,

Ashwini.

An event id 51 generally means that you have either a bad/misconfigured
cdrom drive or media that you are installing from. Do you get the event id
51 when you attempt to install other software? If not, you probably have
bad media.
