Trouble Publishing to IIS

R

Robert

I have Windows XP Professional configured as a computer
in a workgroup (not a member of a domain). This computer
has IIS running, which I've just installed and have not
changed any settings.

When I attempt to publish to it from a local Windows ME
computer on the intranet running FrontPage 2002 client, I
am asked for a "username", a "password", and a "domain".
I assume the username and password of the Windows XP
Professional administrator would work fine. Is this a
correct assumption? Also, I have no idea what to use for
the domain. What domain? I'm not a member of a domain.

Please clear up this basic confusion I'm having.

In general, yes.
Also, I have no idea what to use for the domain. What

Try the Win XP Pro's computername.

Thanks for your response, but it did not help. I tried
using for the domain, as you suggested, the computer name
of the host of IIS (the Windows XP Prof. computer), but
that did not work.

This seems like a really basic question, but I am
stumped. Frontpage's publishing mechanism is clearly
finding IIS on XP Prof's port 80. Here's exactly what
I'm entering.

For my FrontPage 2002 publishing destination, I enter:
http://192.168.168.3 (the internal IP address of the XP
Prof computer hosting IIS).

Then I get a dialog box asking me to provide three pieces
of authentication: a username, a password, and a domain.

So, why am I having so much trouble doing this? For the
username, I enter administrator, for the password, I
enter the administrator's password (for the administrator
account on the XP IIS server), and for domain I've tried
many things, none of which work. What exactly am I being
prompted for here when asked for the domain?

Thank you.

The normal entry is the computer name that shows up if you:

1. Log onto the Win XP Pro system locally.
2. Right-click My Computer and choose Properties.
3. Click the Computer Name tab.
4. Click the Change button.
5. Look in the Computer Name box.

If the computer name is something bizarre, or contains spaces, or
contains special characters, or whatever, you should probably give
it a simpler name such as your own name, your pet's name, your
hobby, ...

You might alwo want to browse

http://127.0.0.1/_vti_bin/_vti_adm/fpadmdll.dll

while logged on locally, and check the various settings under
Users And Roles.
