Trouble loading XP

Hello, I have Windows 98 and am trying to install Windows
XP home edition. When I do, I get the message "Setup
cannot upgrade your current installation to Windows XP.
Your current installation of Windows is not a supported
upgrade path." I'm not sure exactly what this means or how
to correct it. Any advice/help would be appreciated.

Thanks :)

Apparently, you acquired an "OEM Version" of Windows XP.
OEM versions cannot upgrade an existing Windows installation. Only
"retail versions" can upgrade. Either purchase a "retail version" of Windows XP
or reformat your drive to install the OEM version "clean".

It sounds like you've tried to save a few bucks by purchasing an
OEM version of
WinXP. An OEM CD cannot be used to perform an upgrade of an earlier
OS, as it was designed to be installed _only_ upon an empty hard drive
or partition.

Presuming you are using a *retail* full or Upgrade copy of Win98, and
are running it *from* the Win98, you should not see this. But an
Upgrade CD booted direct will give trouble - as will one of the 'OEM'
CDs that will only do clean installs
