Trouble importing Excel file to a new Access table

Just upgraded to Access 2000 from 97. Converted my database to 2000 now I
cannot import excel files into new tables. The Import window allows me to
select the file of my choice and then I click "import". After that the
"Import Spread sheet Wizard" continually points me to an old file I have
since deleted from the hard drive. This happens time and time again. How
can I get the wizard to allow me to import the spread sheet of my choice? I
even created a new database with Access 2000 and the same thing happens.
Help!

It sounds like the "file open" dialog is not opening?
Something is not installed or registered correctly,
but I don't know what.
