Trouble Formatting WD Raptor

K

Kiah68

First of all I'm no IT tech by any means, but I just purchased a brand
new WD Raptor for my system, ran into a problem where the Windows XP
Installation CD is telling me it can not format the drive. Is there a
jumper issue? maybe a BIOS driver I am missing for the EP-8KRAI PRO
mobo?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Does it see the drive?

"During the initial installation of Windows, you will need to press F6
almost immediately when "Setup is inspecting your hardware..." appears on
the screen. You will then be asked to provide any mass storage controller
drivers you may have. At this point, use the drivers supplied by your
controller manufacturer (or motherboard manufacturer). After performing the
steps above, the drive will be recognized and the install should continue
without problems."

Hi,
I'm with Al. I was looking through Newegg and found that they don't carry
any Raptors that are IDE, so conclude that yours is SATA as well. Not that
you couldn't have picked an IDE Raptor up from somewhere else, but it's
probable that it's SATA.
At Epox I found your mb as a "discontinued" model so figured the it's
probably at least a year or two old and probably have to have SATA drivers
installed before the OS will see the drive. Many of the newer mbs handle
SATA drives differently so that they are now readily seen without the
additional F6 step. If you go here and type in the name of your mb for the
Intel SATA F6 driver you need and then load the driver onto a floppy disk
and follow Al's instructions then XP should be able to find and format your
drive. You might not have to do any downloading if you've kept your original
parts from the Epox, as the driver may be quietly sitting on a disk or CD.
