Hi,

Please excuse my ignorance in advance....I have recently inherited an access
database at my workplace, trouble is I don't know very much about MS Access,
I need help with the following..... when I try to open it (ie double click)
responds with a form or some kind of page that asks for a password and user
id, I'm not interested in logging in as a user, I need access to all the
tables and all the rest of the database, I have taken a copy and downloaded
it to my local desktop(front end and back-end), I know little about it as I
said all i know is that the backend of it runs on the network and the front
end sits on each users desktop......How do I open it to show all the tables
etc! and the links to the network end, I have made local copies of both but
can't seem to find out how....I can't get past/by the first message which
says ...can't find the "G"\Stores\Ordering.mdb is not a valid path. Make sure
that the path name is spelled correctly and that you are connected to the
server on which the file resides...So first off, i'll need to change this
path to reflect the local files then I'll need to see the tables .....any
help appreciated...

I can start a blank database and inport the tables and links into this with
some errors this seems to work but that does not really solve the problem of
what i want to do, I also read through the help and found a part about open
exclusive by selecting the arrow to teh right of open ,but this option is not
there either

The problem with it not findint the back end is that "G"\Stores\Ordering.mdb
is that G is probably not the correct drive letter on your computer for the
\Stores folder. That is caused by the copying of the front end. Access
knows where to look for the back end data, but if you move it from computer
to computer, the drive mapping on the two computers is likely not the same.

As to the password issue. If your application has Access security
implemented, you may have to have administrator rights to get into it. I am
weak on Access security, so I can't help with that. If, on the other hand,
the password was coded in by a developer, you can try holding down the Shift
key while you open the database. This causes Access to bypass any startup
commands that were implemented. You will find this in one of two places.
Look for a Macro named Autoexec. The other is in Tools-->Startup-->Display
Form/Page

Thanks for that, Holding the shift key worked and now all the links and
tables etc are there, now i may begin to figure out about how everthing is
put together....

anyone know of any good sources

This site is one of them :)
There are a lot of good books on Access. I would go to my favorite book
store and browse through some until I found one that makes sense and seems to
be at a level I can understand.
My personal favorite is "Access 2002 Desktop Developer's Handbook" by
Litwin, Gertz, and Gunderloy published by Sybex. Unfortunately, they will
not be doing a 2003 version, but it is close enough.
As are most, you will be frustrated with Access Help. The better source is
Help in the VB Editor.

Good Luck
