I ran a House Call Virus Scan yesterday and I had several different kinds of
Trojan viruses in my computer all of which I did manage to delete except for
one that it says it can delete and it says it is in my Windows XP program.
We have had nothing but problems since we bought our new HP with Windows XP
in it. PLEASE HELP!!!

What Program does it say its in? Sometimes it reports it as being in
Restore in which case its simply a matter of temporarily turning off System
Restore then doing another scan. Don't forget to turn Sys Restore back on
again though.

Ok I turned off the system restore and reran the scan it still says there is
one infected file and it says it cannot access it to delete it or clean it
the files name is windows/system32/svcsp1.exe and I keep getting these popups
for spyware and patch downloads or something. Hope you can help.

Go to the location the scanning software has given you and manually delete
it from safemode. JJ

Ok well now you know where it is its a matter of opening an Explorer window
and just navigate to that location and delete it yourself! What i would do
just to be on the safe side is move the svcsp1.exe to a floppy disk then
scan again. If everything is ok you can delete the floppy.

BTW, i see that House Call is an on-line Virus Scanner, does that mean that
you don't have an AV prog installed? If not you really should have.

Hi,

There's probably an icon on your desktop named My Computer or some such
thing. Go ahead and click it to open your file explorer program. Now,
click on the C: you'll find around there somewhere and see if you can
find a folder named windows. Next you'll want to click on the windows
folder to open it's sub folders. You should see one there that's named
system32. After you next click to open that folder, you'll find a list
of files in there. Scroll your way until you find one named svcsp1.exe.
Be careful here and just click on that file ONE time so it's
highlighted. Not hit your keyboards delete key and the thing should go away.

If the file refuses to be deleted you'll need to try it again using safe
mode. Report back here if that's the case and someone that uses XP will
probably offer up some assistance.

Good for you! Now if you start up in safe mode yuo might then be able to
delete it. Safe mode is (correct me if i'm wrong folks) F8 at boot-up, then
select safe mode.

Try this maggie pie

If Windows XP is the only operating system installed on your computer,
booting into Safe Mode with these instructions.

* If the computer is running, shut down Windows, and then turn off the
power
* Wait 30 seconds, and then turn the computer on.
* Start tapping the F8 key. The Windows Advanced Options Menu appears.
If you begin tapping the F8 key too soon, some computers display a "keyboard
error" message. To resolve this, restart the computer and try again.
* Ensure that the Safe mode option is selected.
* Press Enter. The computer then begins to start in Safe mode.
* When you are finished with all troubleshooting, close all programs
and restart the computer as you normally would.

I'm not really sure to tell the honest truth Maggie Pie because i very
rarely use IE. I prefer to use the free and excelent Firefox browser which
does have a pop-up blocker add-on.

Just ask if you want to know anything, it works for me lol.

Win XP SP2 has a popup stopper. You should also consider the spyware
blocking/removing software such as in these:

Ad-Aware SE
http://www.lavasoft.de/support/download/

Spybot Search and Destroy
http://www.safer-networking.org/index.php?lang=en&page=download

CWShredder
http://216.180.233.163/~merijn/files/CWShredder.exe

SpywareBlaster
http://www.javacoolsoftware.com/spywareblaster.html

AVG Antivirus
http://www.grisoft.com/us/us_dwnl7.php

I have McAfee for blocking viruses and SpywareBlaster and AdAware for the
unwanted spyware. These programs sure got my computer out of the toilet.
