trojan not detected with Norton

I have zone alarm and a few other security setups on my
pc. I have norton auto updates and scan at least every
other day..scans are clean, but, emails are being sent
from my computer so there must be some sort of back door
trojan or something on it. Does anyone know how I can
pinpoint this and stop it?

Are you sure the e-mails are being sent from your machine? The newer viruses can infect another machine that might have your email address in its records and could send out emails with your name on it from the infected machine. Any return mail sent in regards to that email will come back to you.

Are they being sent from you computer, or you email
address? If they are being sent from your email address,
then there is another computer that has you email address
in a file or address book that is infected with a worm,
virus, trojan horse..etc. Therefore, the virus,
worm...etc is spoofing your email address as its from
address, therefore other people might be getting email
that appears to be coming from you but is actually coming
from someone else. Lastly, if you virus definitions are
up to date, and you are using a respectable detection
software (f-secure, norton...etc) then I would tend to
belive that you have nothing on you computer.

I hope this explaination serves you well.

thank you Ben, I can't swear they are coming from my
machine, yes all my software is respectable registered
well known, etc etc...but aol rejects my email address now
because of this mass mailing..do they do it off of email
address or originating ip address?...that might clarify if
its actually on my computer. And yes..I was confused how
it could be on my computer..if anything..I have overkill
security on it.
I appreciate that you took the time to respond..thank
you :)

I agree with the other posters about the e/mails being
sent from another machine with your address.
However NAV is an anti-virus program not an anti-trojan
one.Yes it will detect and stop trojans but that is not
it's main purpose. Here is a link for a trojan program
with a 30 day free trial
