Despite updating AVG, Spybot, adaware and shredder and running in safe mode I
am still getting these trogens. When I run AVG in safe mode it does not seem
to deal with the problem it says that there are still infections. When I
boot back into windows I get 2 error messages saying some dll files are
missing. It does not stop me working though. As soon as I connect via talk,
talk I get a warning from AVG that I have Trogen look2me, Backdoor and
Downloader L generic .lev. I don't seem to be able to get rid of them. I
think I may have smithfraud and have downloaded the fix for this and wil run
later.
Anybody any ideas how to rid please.

I think you would be better off backing up all your data, wiping your hard
drive and then reinstall all your programs.

Hi
Is that fairly straighforward and 100% fullproof?
Can you point me in the right direction to do this please.

Nothing in life is foolproof. As for 100% yes it is. But if you know so
little about computers that you cannot reformat your hard drive(s), then I
have to say this is a Windows XP newsgroup.

You would be better advised to take your computer to a shop, or ask a friend
with computer experience who can advise you. After all, I don't know if you
have a Windows XP CD, or any CDs for all the programs you are using, or how
your computer is generally set up (as for example you could have a C drive
and a D drive all on the one hard drive). Additionally you would need to back
up all your data first. I don't know if you know how this is done.

I have three computers and at different times I have wiped each of them
clean and started over for different reasons. You must find someone you can
talk to directly with similar experience.

You might try Windows Defender. Find it on the Microsoft site and RUN it
from the site.

Do you have a software firewall that is active?
turn off system restore points, do an AV scan (disconnect from the internet
first)
reboot, turn the restore points on again.

Do the following before reinstalling everything.

1. 'Unhide' system files for scanning. Control Panel-Folder Options-VIEW
-CHECK 'Show hidden folders' box. UNCHECK 'hide operating system files'.
Click Apply, then OK.

2. Turn OFF System Restore. Delete ALL Restore points. This is to stop
reinfecting the system.

3. Run an online scan tool. Two good ones are Online Housecall from
TrendMicro, www.trendMicro.com. ; and Online Scan from www.ewido.net. I would
run both.

4. Once system is clean, 'rehide' system files and restart System Restore
and create a new restore point.

Next time dont download them. Next time if you make the mistake of
downloading a trojan dont install it. It's all up to you.
