Tree View Slow to Open

My tree view-- i.e, the split screen view-- takes 10 to 15 seconds to open,
whereas the non-tree view opens instantaneously. It seemed like a long time,
so I replaced the drive. But that didn't help.

Does that sound inordinately long? If so, what is causing the problem?

This behaviour is usually observed on drives which have folders which
contains many files. I believe it is deficient design.

Interestingly, after I have opened the tree view once, the next time it only
takes about five seconds. Explorer (as well as applications like
WordPerfect, appear to remember the view for a certain period of time. But
if I wait too long, may be an hour or two, it takes a long time again.

Can you explain that? Do you think the view is saved in the cache or
somewhere else?

You were right. I moved most of the files to another hard drive. Now,
instead of taking 10 to 15 seconds, it takes 5 seconds to show the tree view.
Thanks for the input.
