I am using Excel 97 I am trying to shade some rows in a translucent colour
but I can only select solid colours. Is it possible to use a translucent
colour?

Thanks

Chris

Chris,

The cell colors are background colors. They're not in front of the text of
the cell. What exactly do you mean by "translucent?" Do you mean
"Transparent" (see-through)? I don't recall if Excel 97 had transparent,
but it would only be in draw objects, like boxes, not in cell backgrounds.

You can make your own colors. Tools - Options - Colors. Select a box, then
use "modify" to change the color of that box. Now use that same box when
you color your cells, and you'll get that color. It will stay with just
that workbook; others will retain the default palette of colors.
