Transitions

I am not sure if this is the right place to post messages for Movie Maker,
so if this is the wrong newsgroup someone please let me know.

I am running the latest version of MM and I have a question regarding using
music with transitions. I create photo stories using Plus Photo Story
Software from the Microsoft Plus! Digital Media Edition. When I export out
of Photo Story and then import that video into MM when I add transitions it
like skips part of the music when playing. Almost like it cuts the clip
when the transition happening and then picks up again. Any ideas why this
happens and is there a fix for it?

Thanks

Hi Scott,

Yes, you have the right place.

A number of similar audio related issues have been experienced..... one
approach is to render you full video without the music... to a DV-AVI file
for the highest quality. Render the music track to a separate WMA file.....
then put the two tracks together into your final movie.

How do I merge the two files together once I have both of them created? Is
there a plan to fix this problem?

Thanks Papa!

Hello there,

Which program are you adding transition in?

Are the skips in the music being caused in Photo Story or Movie Maker?

You should take note that feeding the video through twice will mean that it
gets rendered twice even though the only edit is with the audio track. Because
of that you will suffer from generational loss

There are two possibilities.

1) You have a serious system bottleneck (Not likely)

2) According to information posted here a few days back you are mixing file
types that are radically different. Photo story creates very small files which
means a very small amount of data being put into movie maker where its mixed
with a regular format file during the transitions, if you like, you are
introducing a slow moving stream with a fast moving stream. Gives pause for
thought!!

I would try doing the whole project, or at least a big enough project in Movie
Maker to see whether you get the same problem (Do not use anything created in
Photo Story) Someone is bound to jump in and say it makes no difference.
Maybe, but I would want to see for myself.

In addition, Its known that MPeg, MP3 and JPeg files in descending order of
probability can cause anything from trivial to major problems...if you have any
of these you would be best advised to convert them to AVI, WAV or WMA and BMP
files.

I am adding the transitions in MM, since Photo Story can't do that. They
are being caused in MM when I import the video into MM and add a Transition
somewhere.

What if I would try doing the images in Photo Story and then saving that to
a file and then importing that into MM and then add my audio there? MM can
do moving of the images like Photo Story can.
Unless I don't know something.

Yes you should be adding the sound in Movie Maker. Use PS only for photo
animations.
MM can [not]
do moving of the images like Photo Story can.
Unless I don't know something.

The default effects in Movie Maker include two photo "movement" effects
"Ease In" and "Ease out". For the rest of the pan and zooms you need 3rd
party effects. Incidently I have made such effects which you may like to
try. http://www.rehanfx.org/panzoom.htm

also another company Pixelan do such effects for movie maker

Hi there,

OK, well adding sound would normally be the last thing you do before
compiling the final video. So doing it in Movie Maker would be preferable.

As far as using Photo Story goes, well I personally think its a waste of
space.

You could have purchased the full set of professional transitions from
Pixelan and with both video and stills got a superior transition set plus
loads of effects too and done the whole job in Movie Maker.

The Pixelan set of transitions and effects was one of the first add ons
I purchased for Movie Maker. They are very good and well worth the small
amount of money. In fact having just looked at their site
(http://pixelan.com/) its time for an upgrade I think.

On the subject of fancy transitions, the next time you are sat in front
of the TV, try and take note of how many transitions you see that are
something other than a straight switch or very short fade. Fancy transitions
are great, if used in moderation.

Hello there,

I have mostly already answered the below in the other fragment of this
thread.

Movie Maker does not have all of the effects that Photo Story has for
still images.

Since my previous message I have been on the website www.pixelan.com
where I mentioned the professional effects I already had purchased from
them. These include soft as well as hard edged picture in picture
transformations amongst loads of other transitions. But, since I purchased
those excellent effects I find that they have increased the total number of
options to many hundreds, and I am particularly taken by the "Particle"
effect. There is a brilliant demo on their website of some of the particle
effects...they are terrific, and I am buying the upgrade as I type !!!

I strongly recommend that you take a moment to look at Pixelan and
perhaps download the demo effects/transitions.....they will not affect your
system adversely (Its what I did when I first found this company around a
year ago.)

Is there any downloads for Photo Story to add slides for like Birthdays,
Holidays, etc. Kind of like the Windows XP creativity Fun Pack? There are
a few things with it, but not many. I would like more for that, but where
to I get them?
Thanks
