transitions

[confused new user]

when I add a transition between clips on a new movie
timeline, the transition begins but the video is frozen
for 5-10 seconds afterwards... How can I fix that to be a
more clean transition between clips?

You don't say which particular transition you are using,
but I guess it doesn't matter that much. I use "fade" most
of all as it gives a nice gentle blend from one clip to
the next. There is a default duration for transitions,
which is set to 5 seconds. I agree with you, this eats
into your footage too much. I have reduced mine to 2 secs
and that's far nicer in my view.
Go to Tools-Options-Advanced, change the Transition
Duration down to 2 secs, click OK to save, and see how you
like it then. (I don't think it will modify the
transitions you have already put in, only any new ones.
Best to delete the existing and put them straight back in,
and the new duration will apply).
