Please can somebody tell me the best way to transfer my old pc content to my
new pc? Old pc has Windows XP & new pc has Vista.

Take the HD out of the old machine and install it in new machine as a slave
drive.
Copy all of your personal files over to the new machines HD.
All programs will need to be installed from scratch they cannot be
transferred.

There are several approaches to doing this. Which is best for you depends
primarily on how much data you have to transfer. Here are some choices:

1. Transfer them on diskettes.

2. Transfer them on CDRs.

3. E-mail them from the old machine and read the E-mail on the new one.

4. Network the two computers, and just copy the files over the network.

5. Temporarily (or even permanently) install the old computer's hard drive
in the new computer and just copy them over.

6. Use a USB thumb drive

Use the Windows Easy Transfer Utility on the Vista CD or from the Vista
installation. This will migrate data and settings. It will not migrate
applications. There is an Windows Easy Transfer Companion that does migrate
some applications. It's a Beta releases and has some limitations.

With WET you can transfer the data by connecting the two computers with a
USB cable or save the data/settings to DVD or an external drive and then use
WET to bring it in from there to the Vista computer. The WET companion only
works via a USB cable connection.

There are Vista specific newsgroups where you should be posting questions
about Vista.
