Transfering e-mail

I just bought a new computer with XP home on it. My old computer has 98 on
it. I want to transfer my e-mail from my 98 to my new xp computer. I use
MSN as my ISP and use their e-mail. In the files and settings transfer
wizard I only see the option to transfer settings for outlook express which I
am not using. How do I get the e-mail off my old computer to my new computer.

Uhm - then what program are you using for your email client?

Does MSN have a client?
(I'll be honest here - I always uninstall "MSN Explorer" - so I don't know
if that has a client in it - but I don't think so.. I thought MSN email was
web based unless you used a pop-client to POP3 the email down.)

Isn't MSN email based on Hotmail? It is web based like what Shenan said.
However, it is possible to use a email client like Outlook to download
messages there but I believe that requires a fee. Is that what you did?

No I did not use a pop-client to download my email. After signing in to MSN
on the toolbar you can click an icon to get your email. I assume that you
are correct that it is web based. I guess what I really want to know is how
can I find out where on the hard drive are all of my emails are at. If I
know where they are located I can then copy the folder from the old PC to the
new. Unless of course they are compressed in a folder, and then I wouldn't
know how to uncompress them so I could read them.

You probably are correct and it is web based. But the email is still stored

If you didn't save the emails to your hard drive, then they are still
living on MSN's computer.

No.. If it is purely web based and you did not pop/imap/etc it down - it is
not stored permanently on your hard drive.

Prove it to yourself.. If you are using Internet Explroer to access the
mail - do so on another computer - see how it is all there too? That's
because it is on the server - not your machine.

Did you even try to log in using the web based interface to see if your mail
are still there? Like logging in from hotmail.com? We are going no where
with this if you cannot even do that simple task and reporting back the
results.

Yes I did go on to my mail and there is mail there. But some of the email
that I wanted to save I put in a folder called stored folder and that is the
stuff I want to transfer to my new computer. I'm sorry I should have stated
this earlier.

There we go. At least we have more information to work with now. However, I
am still curious as to how you *saved* emails (based on hotmail, which is
web-based) to a folder on your hard drive. Maybe you can explain that also.
Well if you saved it on a folder, can't you just go back to your older
computer and save the emails to like a thumbdrive or something and then
transfer it over? I'm not sure if you can really import the saved emails
back into Hotmail.

You can click on email in the inbox that you want to save and then click on
save and it will ask you will you want to save it. I always pick the stored
message folder. I can work offline and open that "stored message folder" and
read my saved email. I tried what you said and I opened windows explorer
created a new folder and then tried to drag the stored message folder to the
new folder. It didn't work though, when I tried to drag the stored message
folder a circle came up with a line through it and it wouldn't go into the
new folder.
