Transfer Wizard Question

I have an old HD that was slowly dying. Finally it just stopped turning on,
so we got a new drive. We only have one computer so my Hubby put the new HD
into the computer and "slave drived" the old HD in hopes to Transfer Wiz the
data over. Is there a way to do this when the two drives are both on the
same computer??
Help! I have Amazon.ca certificate codes on my old email that I really
want!!

It was dying and you did not take steps to backup BEFORE it died - even
though you understood it was dying?

I dont recall saying I didnt take steps to back up the computer. As a matter
of fact, the only thing I need is the email I got the day before it finally
croaked, I just thought it would be easier to file transfer instead of
reloading all my backups one by one.
Yes the drive spins, it just wont open XP all the way, it says something is
compressed so it cant open. I could look up my notes, but I wont bore you
with details unless you need them.

You cannot give too many details - only leave out too many when you have
someone trying to troubleshoot a problem on a computer they cannot see or
touch.

By "Does the drive spin and can be accessed by Windows XP" - I meant your
NEW install of XP on the new and fully functional drive? When the old drive
is hooked as slave (jumpers, etc set correctly) - do you have access to the
data on it?

By "compressed", do you mean that there was a drive "overlay" on the old
drive that allowed your system to use it - or do you just assume it is
compressed because you keep getting "Access Denied" messages?

It's impossible to file transfer if you cannot access the data in some way -
and if you can - then it is a simple file copy procedure.

As for your backups - unless you did differentials/incrementals - you only
need your last Full backup.. And if you did incrementals/differentials..
Well - for incrementals you need your last full and all incrementals after
that.. For Differentials - you need your last full and your last
differential.

Is the old drive accessible when you start up the computer? If it is
then you should see a second hard drive listed in "My Computer".

If the second hard drive is shown then make note of the drive letter
and search that drive for files named inbox.dbx That will show you
where your old email files are located. You can then use the File -
Import function in Outlook Express to import the emails etc into your
new drive.

But if the second hard drive is not listed in "My Computer" then it
probably really is dead and you will need expert assistance in order
to recover anything from it. That could be expensive and may not
work.
