Transfer unit folders from an NT4 server to a Windows 2000 server

Possessors of Wisdom,

I need information on how to transfer my unit's folder and
subfolders from an NT4 server to a Windows 2000 server.
The NT4 server is a Dell PowerEdge 6300 model and the
Windows 2000 server is a Dell PowerEdge 2500 model. The
size of the unit folder is 20.8 GB. There are eleven
users in the unit and I wish to set permissions at the
group level for obvious reasons. I'm a newbie so please
dumb down your explanation for doing this as much as
possible.

Thank you very much for any and all assistance!

Kenneth

Kenneth,

20.8GB is a lot. Please do not make the mistake that I did a few years ago:
do not cut and paste; if anything, copy and paste and then delete ONLY when
you are sure that everything is there.

It might be good to know if we are doing this on the same network segment or
doing this from one Site to another Site ( aka across a WAN link ).

I might look at either xcopy or scopy or even robocopy. Take a look at the
Microsoft Knowledge Base and do a search for these. This will be a good
exercise for you to learn how to look things up in the MSKB.

If you have any more questions please feel free to contact us. All of us
will gladly help.

Cary
