I tell the PA phone reps that I use media that has been slipstreamed
with SP2, while using a specific OEM's Product Key, and I get activated
all the time.

Out of curiosity I installed an HP CD using HP serial number on a RM
machine and surprisingly, Microsoft UK activatd it!! It looks like
activation isn't as stringent as it is made to be.

I wasn't asked any questions at all. They just did it.

It's kind of random if and what they ask. My samples are the most
common I've gotten. I've been given the third degree, and I've had them
do what yours did, but in the end I've ALWAYS been activated. They're
actually, despite those who say otherwise, pretty leniant on using
recovered numbers from dead machines. Especially with donations. I've
even TOLD them i'm using the numbers from a dead machine, and they
didn't even blink.

I've used the same OEM key when I've changed motherboards. Once I had to
call to get activation - activated fine - I just told them I had to replace
a faulty part.

Or, save a lot of money and buy a generic OEM from Walmart or Newegg.

Interesting how Carey's recommendations are always the most expensive
ones. I wonder why.

I think he is under the mistaken impression that he gets a commision.

The key is the word NUMBERS. It's the exact truth.

The statement as taken is exactly true.

I know this requires actual reading, but it's not hard to understand.

An Activation ID (the activation NUMBERS) will not ever be generated
under your premise, as you cannot use a OEM Product Key (from Micron) to
install XP with a Retail CD.

Retail and OEM are not interchangeable and you seem to miss that fact.
Using incompatible numbers will not allow installation and there is nothing
the activation center can do about it since the install can not even
complete with incompatible numbers.
If installation is not completed, you will not get close to activation.
Perhaps you do not understand the basic difference between OEM and retail?
