transfer mode changed from Multi-word DMA to PIO

Hello
Why does a CD drive transfer mode changed from Multi-word DMA to PIO after
switching the two master and slave CD drives? Why does "DMA if available"
changed to "PIO only"? Why doesn't changing "PIO only" to "DMA if available"
change the transfer mode back to Multi-word DMA? Only uninstalling the
chipset changed back to "Multi-word DMA".
