I have lot of messages in outlook 2000 in my old IBM Laptop . I got a new
Dell laptop and want to transfer all my mails to outlook 2003 in my new
laptop. I did check out the microsoft site and the steps are mentioned over
there. Acc to site I have to transfer messages from C:\Documents and
Settings\user\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook\archive.pst
to same address on the new laptop. I have to delete the .pst file
from outlook 2003 and paste the .pst file from outlook 2000 over there. I
just want to confirm if this would work out ???

No. Do NOT overwrite the existing pst file.

On the New computer:
Copy the pst file to your HDD. Do NOT overwrite any existing file. Remove
any read-only attribute. (Right-Click-Properties).
Open Outlook.
Do File-Open-Outlook Data File and navigate to where you copied the file.

You then have two alternatives.
1. Drag and drop the data from the old file to the new
or,
2. If you have a large amount of data then you can set the old file as the
Default Delivery location and Outlook will just carry on using that file.
(Control Panel-Mail-Data File)

It most certainly would not and is the poorest recommendation I have ever
seen. You never delete an active PST file and you never paste another PST
file into the same location or into Outlook's default location.
All you need to do is copy your Outlook data file to your new laptop. Put it
anywhere you would normally store data but do not ever paste it into
Outlook's default location. Then you open it in Outlook using these
complicated steps:
File > Open > Outlook Data File...
Then copy whatever information you want from it into your new installation.

To add, the archive.pst is not your main data file it is merely the archive
that conatins archived mail
