transfer info from outlook 2000 to 2003

I'm running office 2000 and purchased outlook 2003. I'm unclear about how to
transfer my messages and files...and I know little about computers...is there
a clear way to do it? Also, what's the thing about word not working? thanks

All your data is stored in the pst file.
Just install Outlook 2003 and it will update your current Outlook to Outlook
2003.

While upgrading should preserve your data, it pays to create a backup first.
