transfer info from one sheet to another?

I want to transfer certain cells from one sheet into another sheet. I can
not get the cell to work. I keep getting a error message. Could you
please tell me how to take the info form sheet 2 A3 and have it automatically
transfer into sheet one colum A?

Try the following formula in Sheet1 column A
=(Sheet2!A3)

=Sheet2!A3

No that didn't work it gave me this message #REF. I have multiple sheets
that I need to carry certain information over to sheet one and keep getting
various errors.

Try ='[Workbookname.xls]Sheet1'!A1

where Workbookname.xls is the name of your file, Sheet1 is the name of the
worksheet in that file and A1 is the cell in the specified worksheet.

I'm sorry that didn't work. Another way to link cells/sheets is:

Click a cell in Sheet1
Click on the = sign under your toolbar
Click the sheet tab at the bottom of the screen you want to link Sheet1 to
Click the cell in the sheet you want to link to
Click OK

One more technique:

Select the "sending" cell
edit|Copy

Select the "receiving" cell
edit|Paste special|click Paste Link

Are the sheets in the same workbook? If not, are both workbooks open in the
same instance of Excel?
