Transfer FSMO role question

Can someone clarify please.

Can the 2 forest wide roles schema and domain naming be
siezed/transferred to another domain within the forest or
can they only be transferred/siezed to other domain
controllers in the root domain?

Are these two roles root domain roles only?

What is unique with the first domain installed then.
What makes it the root of the forest.
