I have a 2.5 hdd from my bad laptop being used as an external device. How do
I transfer all my files, settings, and backups from that to my os on my new
computer?

Connect the harddisk to the new computer and use copy&paste ?

Or use ghost (backup solution etc)

Or google for a better answer :)

The old hard drive is out of the old laptop-the motherboard shorted- it is in
a 2.5 enclosure and hooked to my new desktop by usb and is showing as drive
k:. I can get some files out but unable to get a msn money back-ups, outlook
backup-ups or get into administrators documents...it's saying acces denied
for admin docs.

You need to take ownership of the files:

Take Ownership of a File or Folder in Windows XP [Q308421] -

In order for the Security tab to show:

a. The drive must be NTFS
b. In Folder Options - View, uncheck 'Use Simple File Sharing'. That is
the level used in Home, and for some strange reason is on by default in
Pro, too.
